Transportation
The entire city centre can be covered on a stroll, and this is where interest points tend to concentrate; as for getting to Perpignan, roads, rail and airways offer plenty of choices.
Getting in
By plane
Perpignan - Rivesaltes Airport (IATA: PGF) is an international airport situated 3 km north of Perpignan.
- There are 5 flights from Paris Orly every day, operated by Air France.
- Bus shuttle is available for 4.50€ to/from the railway station daily between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. for all regular flights.
- Taxis aren’t too convenient, but there are 7 car rental companies at the airport: Ada, Avis, Budget, National Citer, EuropCar, Hertz and Sixt.
- A boutique in the central hall distributes national and international press, as well as Oriental Pyrenees wines, confectionery and regional products.
By train
- Perpignan is deserved by the TGV and the IdTGV.
- Journey times are 5 hours to Paris and only 1 hour to Barcelona.
- The LGV Perpignan-Figueres is an international high speed rail line which is currently under construction and scheduled to begin in February 2009.
- Perpignan railway station (1, avenue Général de Gaulle) also provides daily links to Lille and Bruxelles by TGV, Metz and Strasbourg by Corail, and many other destinations by TER.
By car
- A9 autoroute (La Catalane) runs between Orange and Perthus, through Perpignan, Narbonne, Béziers, Montpellier and Nîmes.
- RN 9 is a trunk road between Moulins in the Loire Valley and the frontier with Spain. It passes through Clermont Ferrand, Béziers and Narbonne.
Getting around
- Urban transport is provided by Perpignan Mediterranée and a single ticket costs 1.10€, allowing one change of line in an hour and a half time, a daily ticket costs 4.10€, while a round-trip ticket is 2€. These are available from the bus driver.
- You can acquire a 10-ride ticket, Carnet Bleu, for 7.80€ and a group ticket, Carnet Groupe, for 8.20€, valid for one trip and at most 12 people.
- Besides the 18 bus lines, there is also P’tit Bus, a free line running around the city centre and stopping upon request. It runs every 7 minutes or so, Monday to Friday from 7.45 a.m. to 12.20 p.m. and from 1.15 p.m. to 7.40 p.m.
